Following are brief descriptions and links to tours and activities available in southern Belize, including fishing (fly, light tackle, trolling and drop fishing), sailing, snorkeling, Mayan ruins, jungle treks and caving.

Inside or outside the reef, sea, rivers or lagoons, flyfishing, trolling or spincasting - - the Placencia area of Belize offers some of the best fishing in the world.

Snorkeling



Snorkeling Gear Orientation

The Placencia area offers a number of snorkeling venues, including Laughing Bird Caye, Ranguana Caye, the Silk Cayes (a/k/a Queen Cayes), Moho Caye, Whipray Caye and the Lark Caye Range -- not to mention the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the western hemisphere's longest barrier reef.

 

Most snorkeling trips are a full day in duration, and include lunch and gear, although a few half-day trips are available.

And, don't forget whale shark snorkeling interaction around the full moons in April and May of each year -- a rare opportunity to snorkel with the oceans' "gentle giants."

Jungle, Mayan Ruins, and Caving



Iguana at Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
 

A variety of jungle, Mayan ruins and caving tours are available from the Placencia Peninsula, including the following:

bullet Monkey River:  great for wildlife viewing
bullet Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary:  good jungle hiking and usually includes an inner tube float (private birding tour also available)
bullet Nim Li Punit Mayan Ruins:  ceremonial ruins most notable for the stelae found at the site; tour of Nim Li Punit is combined with either the Lubaantun ruins or Blue Creek Cave
bullet Lubaantun Mayan Ruins:  mystical site with unique architecture
bullet Blue Creek Cave:  wet cave, favorite of clients
 

We attempt to select the best guides and tour operations for  each of these tours.  Therefore, advance notice is appreciated if you are interested in any of these activities. 

Also, except for the Monkey River tour, a minimum of 4 persons is required for each tour.  Consequently, flexibility in scheduling is required if you are traveling with fewer than 3 other people.

It's hard to imagine anything that could be more romantic, peaceful, calming and adventurous all at the same time than a sunset Lagoon cruise, day sail and snorkel cruise, or overnight sailing cruise aboard the beautiful Talisman 52' foot yacht, the 40' Nepenthe Norseman catamaran, the 35' Cattlya, the  30' Long Gone Catalina monohull, or the 50' Next Wave catamaran.

Overnight cruises can include the Rio Dulce in Guatemala or the Bay Islands in Honduras, Ambergris Caye, Placencia, Southwater Cayes, the Sapodilla Cayes and the Pelican Cayes. 

Day sails, sunset Lagoon cruises and full moon evening cruises aboard the Next Wave feature open bar, appetizers, good music, and lunch and snorkeling gear on day sails
